This 1968 Camaro SS/RS began life as a factory V8 convertible. The modifications start off with metal work including new quarter panels, Detroit Speed mini tub kit, subframe connectors, and rear shock bar. The subframe has been powder coated gloss black with a black Raptor lined underside. Tubular controls arms are installed in the front with large six piston Wilwood brakes, double adjustable coilovers, and a CPP quick ratio power steering gearbox. The rear has a shortened 12 bolt rear axle with matching large four piston brakes and emergency brake option.
Paint has been laid using PPG base and clear as a beautiful dark metallic blue with a bright silver SS stripe. Polished Ring Brothers exterior door handles and mirrors compliment the perfect blend of colors to match the exterior paint, wheels, brake calipers, and interior.
The wheels are a custom three piece designed by Stretch's and produced from a local vendor. The rear rims measure 13in wide with a 6in polished offset wrapped in a 285/30/20R tire. The front is a 10in rim with a 2.5 offset wrapped in a 235/35/20R. Absolutely no rubbing of the tires and the wheels have been color matched to the body color with polished 12 point hardware.
Inside the car showcases a full TMI interior including door panels and front bucket seats wrapped in a slightly lighter exterior tone complimenting the convertible top, chrome infrastructure, and blue suede headliner. The rear seat follows custom upholstery that matches the front and combines the polished Billet Specialties steering wheel wrapped in the same blue leather as the seats. Polished electric Autometer gauges in an aftermarket color matched bezel have been installed, as well as an original style floor shifter with the factory console. The aftermarket original appearance radio with bluetooth, Sirus XM and standard radio stations housed next to the Vintage Air control panel ties the dashboard together. Power windows are supplied from Nu-Relics with factory appearance chrome switches for front and rear power window operations.
The motor is a true LSX block bored out to a 440ci and comes equipped with a fully forged rotating assembly. Callies dragonslayer crank, Callies Compstar rods with ARP 2000 bolts, custom spec Wiesco pistons, six bolt Trick Flow cylinder heads spec'd to 355 intake/275 exhaust have been combined with a custom grind "boost" camshaft. Holding the motor together is a slew of ARP hardware and Cometic gaskets. To help it breath are Hooker long tube silver ceramic coated headers, 3in stainless steel exhaust, and stainless steel performance magnaflow mufflers. This provides an enjoyable sound at any RPM level whether cruising around town or driving pn the highway. Detroit Speed's stainless steel gas tank with an intank 450lph Aeromotive fuel pump feeds the 440LSX with over 600 horsepower.
Accessorizing the engine bay are RAB Performance polished front accessories, Holley intake with matching Holley oil pan, valve covers as well as a Terminator X EFI harness and computer. Polished aluminum radiator with dual Spal fans and Vintage Air A/C equipment. All components pull together a beautiful, cohesive, and brutal engine bay that emits performance.
Pushing the Camaro in drive and reverse is a stage three custom built transmission with billet input shaft, rollerized billet forward hub, hardened clutches, a very mild and not overwhelming shift kit, a custom built billet 3200stall TCI torque converter with the correct stator matched to the motor. This transmission is built to handle over 1000hp reliably, still retaining the automatic shifting controlled by the Holley Terminator.
